Elephantine Enormous Cyclothon

The Challenge

Craft a cinematic story from a live, unscripted race in real time. This meant filming across 21 kilometres without disrupting participants, capturing authentic unscripted moments, adapting to changing light conditions, and coordinating multiple moving camera units. The story also needed to seamlessly incorporate Elephantine Enormous, the race's finishing destination.

The Execution

Before the cameras rolled, we first visualized the final film its pacing, energy, and how the race would culminate at Elephantine Enormous.

Every key moment of the film was storyboarded frame by frame, allowing us to pre visualize the narrative.

Pre Production & Test Shoot

Two days prior, we conducted a test shoot along the race route using professional cyclists.

• Understand motion & speed on camera
• Test real world camera setups

Insights from this test refined our storyboard and ensured seamless capture during the race.

Planning the Coverage

Capturing a 21 km race required precise planning, route study, and camera positioning. The team aligned execution strategy and built strong coordination ahead of the shoot.

Race Day

By 3:00 AM, the production team deployed across the route. At 5:30 AM, the race began, supported by a three tier filming strategy capturing scale, motion, and human effort.

Drone teams captured sweeping aerial visuals, establishing the scale, environment, and magnitude of participation.

Tracking Camera Teams Capturing Motion

Tracking teams moved alongside cyclists, capturing dynamic real time perspectives across the race flow.

FPV Camera Units Capturing Immersion

FPV cameras delivered immersive, high speed visuals placing viewers inside the race experience.

Strategic Camera Positioning

Teams were positioned across key points to ensure uninterrupted storytelling from start to finish.
